Model history

Voltswagen brought Volkswagen bus inspired bodywork to a 7¼ inch gauge railway. The Phoenix design used two Titan 7 bogies, a chassis made for the body, a sprung seat and a handbrake.

It made its public debut at the Burnley AGM in September 2017, with full production announced that December. Later photographs show 21 and 23 window body versions.

Phoenix announced the end of Voltswagen production in February 2022. The photographs below document the design and its place in the historical range.

From the original Phoenix catalogue

The original catalogue traced this 7¼ inch rail vehicle to the German KLv20 maintenance vehicle, describing a custom chassis on two Titan 7 bogies, spring-suspended seating and a mechanical handbrake.

This is an archived design description, not a current MRW specification or availability statement.
