Model history

Phoenix developed Hefty as a bogie counterpart to the Tug, following requests for a larger ride on locomotive able to negotiate tighter curves.

The announcement of 21 August 2017 described two substantial bogies, a roof and a choice of forward facing or sideways seating. Larger gauge versions also appear in the company records.

Hefty remains part of MRW’s development work. The photographs below document earlier Phoenix examples; contact the workshop about the current version.

From the original Phoenix catalogue

The original Hefty was offered as a bolt-together kit with low-profile power bogies, a steel roof, powder-coated panels and a ready-terminated wiring loom. This was the earlier Phoenix kit arrangement, not the current MRW specification.

This is an archived design description, not a current MRW specification or availability statement.
