Model history

Phoenix’s Tin Turtle represented the 40 hp protected Simplex locomotive associated with First World War military railways.

Keith recalled that his personal interest in the subject led to a design initially intended as a one off, which became part of the production range.

The protective panels and compact body gave the 7¼ inch gauge model a distinctive appearance. Original photographs and construction details are preserved below.

From the original Phoenix catalogue

The archived 40 hp Simplex protected locomotive kit featured scale protective panels and bonnet details, olive-green powder coating and a 24 V, 1 hp drive with both axles powered.

This is an archived design description, not a current MRW specification or availability statement.
