The locomotive behind a whole family.
Project Loco began during the Express Locos years. Phoenix later developed Project Loco 2 in both 5 inch and 7¼ inch gauge.
Keith recalled an unusual launch advertisement: a cardboard mockup was concealed beneath a sheet and readers were invited to guess the new design. He remembered the interest generated by the campaign.
The 2018 catalogue described styling influenced by older Hunslet locomotives. The Project Loco family also helped inspire Comet and Titan. MRW’s link below is specifically for the 7¼ inch chassis.
The original catalogue dates the Project Loco redesign to 2010, when bolt-together steel construction was introduced. The period description promoted the 5 inch and 7¼ inch versions as practical home-build kits.
This is an archived design description, not a current MRW specification or availability statement.
