Model history

Phoenix unveiled Druid at the Hereford Model Engineers AGM weekend in September 2015 and announced full production that November.

The model was inspired by the Motor Rail Simplex rebuilt by the Abbey Light Railway. Phoenix credited David Malton’s knowledge of Druid and the railway in developing the design.

Later updates recorded provision for a second 750 W motor. The gallery shows completed examples and construction details. The Winter 2015 Society News report records its introduction.

From the original Phoenix catalogue

The historical Phoenix description traces the full-size Druid to Motor Rail locomotive MR8644, built in 1941, and records the later rebuild associated with the Abbey Light Railway after its acquisition in 1999.

This is an archived design description, not a current MRW specification or availability statement.
