A small diesel with a distinctive drive.
Phoenix produced the Class 14 Teddy Bear in 5 inch and 7¼ inch gauges. The model represented the British diesel hydraulic locomotive’s distinctive centre cab, jackshaft and connecting rods.
The archived catalogue and construction photographs show how Phoenix reproduced the bodywork and running gear in miniature.
A provisional specification also records a 7¼ inch Class 14 with a 3 hp AC drive and regenerative braking. That specification describes a development proposal rather than a confirmed production version.
The original Class 14 design incorporated jackshaft and coupling-rod drive, investment-cast steel wheels and fine etched and cast details. Phoenix offered versions in both 5 inch and 7¼ inch gauge.
This is an archived design description, not a current MRW specification or availability statement.
